Post by oggiesr » Sat Mar 27, 2010 12:29 am

We have been looking for a chosen charity for this years Lakes tour and after seeing the program on TV last night and knowing some of you are in the armed forces I thought, I would just ask for your opinons before I go on and sign up to this.

Although i'm nae coming this year Steve i agree, was 24 years in the RAF, been Kuwait, Qatar, Falklands, etc etc, and it's not easy being down there with family back home for 4 or 6 MONTHS at a time, sometimes more than once a year, was deffo a major contributory factor in wrecking my marriage though (7 months out of the UK in 1 year), and i wisna in the direct line of fire, did get mortered a few times though. have every sympathy for the guys and gals down there, still got a lot of mates in the RAF and they down in Kandahar, Afghanistan just now with the Tornadoes, things are only gonna get tougher as the gov cutbacks hit home. It was bad enough when i was last in Qatar (2005), we had 8 aircraft, the yanks had 3 squadrons of 24 each, you could only ever use 6 at any one time, one was always on maintenence and the other was always in a million bits, robbed blind for parts to keep the other 6 airbourne, spares were never available or took ages to get out from the UK.

Looks like most of the bb are in favour of this charity, so I have signed up to it but with the Bank holiday this week end I don’t expect to have any word back off them till Tuesday at the soonest.
I will post up news of what is available in the way of banners and collection boxes as soon as I know more about the way they run things.

SORRY I HAVE MENT TO PUT THIS UP ALL WEEK END :thanks:
